In January of 1975, a couple of newlyweds by the name of Beate and Lothar van Helden departed from their native Germany, to make a new home in Canada. United by a shared sense of faith, community and family, they and their four children swiftly became active members of every neighbourhood they inhabited, from Montreal, to Cornwall to Mississauga.
In 1999, the van Helden's nurturing spirit and desire to connect with their neighbours took shape in the beloved Green Apron Restaurant, in Mississauga's historic Streetsville Village.
It was the winter of 2010 with the van Helden's story would find a new setting in Dorset Ontario. Beate and Lothar instantly recognized the unique splendour of their surroundings and were filled with the desire to welcome others to their Northern Ontario hideaway. Beate and Lothar van Helden invite you to be written into their story, with a stay at Dorset's Bread and Butter Inn.
